What is a CPV Code?
The Common Procurement Vocabulary (CPV) is the EU's standardised classification system for public procurement. Every contract notice published on TED must include at least one 8-digit CPV code identifying the subject matter. The first two digits identify the division — the broadest level of classification. CPV codes are used to filter, search, and analyse EU procurement data across all member states.
CPV codes are the primary tool for systematic EU tender monitoring. Suppliers typically monitor 3 to 8 CPV divisions relevant to their core capabilities, setting up automated alerts for new notices in those divisions. Construction and engineering companies follow CPV 45 (construction works), 71 (engineering services), and 44 (construction materials). IT companies monitor 72 (IT services), 48 (software), 30 (office and computing machinery), and 32 (telecommunications). Healthcare suppliers track 33 (medical equipment) and 85 (healthcare services). Professional services firms follow 79 (business services), 80 (education and training), and 73 (research and development).
Each CPV division below shows how many active TED contract notices currently fall within that division. Divisions with no current notices are shown in grey. Click any division to view the active notices, with contract values, deadlines, and contracting authority details.
