A modelação hidrológica e hidráulica desempenha um papel fundamental na compreensão e previsão de fenómenos extremos, como as cheias, cada vez mais frequentes e intensos devido à s alterações climáticas, como se observou nos eventos de dezembro de 2022. Estas ferramentas permitem simular o comportamento dos sistemas hÃdricos, desde a precipitação e o escoamento superficial até ao escoamento nos cursos de água, fornecendo informações cruciais para antecipar cenários de inundação em diferentes escalas espaciais e temporais.
